Traditional Cheese

These wonderful Amish cheeses come from one of the few remaining farmer-owned co-ops, which includes approximately 120 members, nearly all of whom are Amish. Each small farm is a labor of love, consisting of no more than 20 cows. Hand-milking is the norm, and the fresh milk is delivered to the USDA-approved Amish-run cheese plant in traditional 10-gallon milk cans. These cows are not treated with BST growth hormones, are not fed GMO feed, and are kept in good health in comfortable environments. From early spring to late fall, the cows are out on pasture, enjoying the luscious grass and sunshine.

Certified non-GMO, Kosher and Halal vegetable rennet is used in these cheeses, rather than animal rennet. The result of all this is an exceptional local cheese, bursting with wholesome flavor, and free of artificial hormones or steroids.

Organic Cheese

Our organic cheeses come from certified organic small family farms located in western Pennsylvania and northeastern Ohio. These Amish farmers farm with horses andbelieve in keeping the soil as natural as possible, which means no chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides are used.

These farms are inspected and certified under OEFFA. These family farms consist of 12 to 20 cows, all milked by hand. The milk is put in 10-gallon milk cans and chilled with water, and then shipped daily to a farmer-owned cheese plant where it is made into premium specialty cheeses.

All the farms meet the USDA high standards for dairy farmers to be able to label their products Organic. The process begins with the requirement of farming the land organically for three years prior to certification. All animal feed must be certified organic, meaning that it must be all-natural, cannot be genetically modified, cannot be grown with chemical fertilizers, and must come from a certified organic farm. Milk-producing animals may not be pasture grazed on land that is sprayed with insecticide, and may not be given antibiotics either.

The cheese plant is USDA, FDA, and ODA inspected and approved. Inside the plant, all ingredients, in addition to the milk, must be certified organic.

All of this means that you can be assured of an all-natural, high-quality (and tasty!) product.

Grass-Fed Cheese

For the Amish farmers who contribute the milk for our grass-fed cheeses, living off the land is a way of life. Staying on the farm, maintaining healthy soils, raising healthy animals, and producing healthy foods is the goal. Consumers can be assured that no BST/RTHS hormones or antibiotics are used or fed to the cows. Most important, though, is what the cows DO eat: in summer, 100% pasture-grown grasses, and in winter, natural forages harvested from the healthy soils. The milk is then delivered to a traditional Amish cheese plant where it is turned into an artisan cheese of unsurpassed quality: rich, creamy, and featuring desirable seasonal variations that reflect the wholesome feed.

Amish Country Roll Butter

The delicious, creamy, salted butter from Alcam Creamery is unlike anything you’ve ever tasted. Perfect on bread, in cooking, and for eating by the slice. This has been called, “perhaps the most amazing thing to ever come from a cow.” This butter comes packaged in two-pound rolls.

Not quite as tasty as the salted variety, the unsalted butter is perfect for baking or for those who need less salt in their diet.

*According to Alcam Creamery, about 85% of the milk that goes into this butter is from Amish farms, as Alcam is in fact in Amish country. We have found it to be the most flavorful butter we have tried, and so we make it available to you, but we want you to know that this is not a 100% Amish product.
